What is changing with my Dedicated Hosting or Cloud Hosting services from The Planet?
A.
Your services and account are unchanged, and can be managed and accessed as before through Orbit. However, moving forward we are only offering SoftLayer’s Dedicated Server and CloudLayer® platforms, which might affect your options for adding to your current dedicated and cloud environments. In the future, we hope to migrate all customers on The Planet cloud to CloudLayer, but will work with See below for more information.

Can I order new or additional Dedicated Hosting or Cloud Hosting services from The Planet?
A.
Moving forward, we are only offering SoftLayer’s Dedicated Server and CloudLayer platforms as new services. You can order additional services for your current The Planet Dedicated or Cloud Hosting services, including adding to an existing virtual rack or private rack as long as there is space available. If (or after) that space is full, new deployments will have to be made on the SoftLayer platform. Q.
Can I order new or additional Colocation or Managed Hosting Services from The Planet?
A.
Additional services can be added to existing Colocation or Managed Service accounts. Please contact your dedicated account representative for more information. But for now, we are not accepting new Colocation or Managed Hosting services orders in general, while we develop a new approach to both services that leverages our merged automation and technical advantages to provide an offering with even greater value.

If you are a current The Planet customer but have not had Managed Hosting services and require them, we invite you to consider migrating to the SoftLayer platform. Many traditionally managed services, such as firewall configuration and load balancing, can be easily self-managed for no additional cost via our industry-leading Customer Portal. If you still prefer to have assistance in managing your services, we can happily refer you to a certified value-added services partner.

How do I manage my The Planet servers?
A.
Your existing The Planet services and account is still managed and accessed as before through Orbit or the Managed Hosting Portal. For additional support, simply contact 866.865.4704, or open a ticket or live chat with a representative via Orbit. Beginning today, you can also access the SoftLayer Customer Portal with your The Planet username and password and start exploring.

Q.
Do I have to move all of my services from The Planet over to SoftLayer?
A.
No. Current customers of The Planet will continue to be supported on their existing servers for as long as they want to be on that server (aside from any typical data center planning issues which would not be merger related). There will be no forced migration.

But we want to be very open that the SoftLayer platform is our merged company’s standard. All new customers and server deployments will be set up on the SoftLayer platform.

We hope that current customers of The Planet will consider moving to the SoftLayer platform as soon as it makes sense, and begin reaping the benefits of the SoftLayer advantages, including automated services and advanced networking. In addition, you can receive 3TB of bandwidth, now standard on all SoftLayer servers, and SoftLayer’s hardware SLA guarantee.
