Lance Crosby, Esq. - Chief Executive Officer
Prior to SoftLayer, Mr. Crosby spent five years with The Planet as Chief Operations Officer where he managed all operations including sales, provisioning, product selection, managed services, application development, engineering, information security, business development and legal departments. Serving in prior executive management roles at Catalog.com and Dallas Internet, he brings extensive experience in leadership and management skills coupled with extensive technical skills in software and hardware environments. Mr. Crosby holds bachelor's degrees in Finance and Management, a MS in Finance and MBA from Tarleton State University, a part of the Texas A&M University System. Mr. Crosby's legal education includes a JD from Texas Wesleyan School of Law. Mr. Crosby is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas and is an active member of the State Bar of Texas.
Sam Fleitman - Chief Operations Officer
Sam Fleitman joined SoftLayer in June 2005 as the Chief Operations Officer directly responsible for IT systems, customer service, and datacenter operations. Mr. Fleitman was the former VP of Information Systems at The Planet for over three years. Prior to The Planet, Mr. Fleitman held the CTO position with Catalog.com. His background includes work experience with Oracle and Texas A&M University. As CTO of Catalog.com, Mr. Fleitman designed and built one of the first fully scalable ICANN-accredited virtual hosts, totaling over 30,000 virtual servers. He is an Oracle database administrator with extensive development skills in multiple languages including Cold Fusion, C, C++, Perl, PHP, Python, SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, ASP, Java, and others. Mr. Fleitman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Sciences from Texas A&M University.
Nathan Day - Chief Technology Officer
As CTO, Nathan Day is responsible for design, creation, and implementation of the proprietary SoftLayer Infrastructure Management System (IMS). Prior to SoftLayer, Mr. Day served as Vice President of Development at The Planet where he oversaw the back-end management system. Prior to joining The Planet, Mr. Day held the position as Senior Application Developer at Catalog.com. His employment history includes positions with Texas Instruments, MCI WorldCom, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He brings extensive experience in product and software development. His skill set includes PHP, Cold Fusion, Perl, HTML, XML, C, C++, and Python. Mr. Day earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Mike Jones - Chief Financial Officer
Mike Jones joined SoftLayer in June 2005 as Chief Financial Officer with oversight over all financial and accounting-related matters. Mr. Jones was the Chief Financial Officer of The Planet from March 2000 until May 2005. His 20+ years of experience has included public accounting with Ernst and Young, public auditing, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, accounting system design and implementation, treasury management and forecasting for a number of successful high-tech startups. Mr. Jones has a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a CPA.
George Karidis - Chief Strategy Officer
George Karidis joined Softlayer in January, 2008, and is responsible for the company’s strategic growth and marketing activities. Prior to joining Softlayer, Mr. Karidis spent seven years with Devonshire Investors, the private equity arm of Fidelity Investments. There he drove the strategic planning efforts of portfolio companies focused on the telecom, hosting, and software markets, taking active roles in each company from inception through domestic growth and international expansions. Previously, Mr. Karidis led business development for a startup serving the SME market, and spent more than 6 years with the Yankee Group as an industry analyst covering the telecom and IT sectors. He holds an Honors Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McMaster University with majors in finance, accounting and economics, and an MBA from the University of Ottawa.
Sean Charnock - Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Charnock's primary responsibilities include capital raising, investor relations, vendor relations, and new business development. From 2004 to early 2005, Mr. Charnock was Vice President of Purchasing and Leasing at The Planet. He has an extensive background in the high tech field, both domestically and internationally. Formerly acting in a business development role at Efficient Networks, a leader in the DSL CPE market, Mr. Charnock worked to enable a globalization of the company's manufacturing and sales and marketing. Efficient Networks was eventually acquired by Siemens AG in 2002 for $1.5 billion. Mr. Charnock earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Banking from the University of North Florida. He also holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Regis University. Mr. Charnock currently acts in an advisory role to many start-up companies in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and currently sits on the board of Wireless Evolutions.
Ric Moseley - Vice President, Engineering
Mr. Moseley's primary responsibilities include network engineering and service provisioning. Prior to SoftLayer, Mr. Moseley served as Vice President of Engineering at The Planet. Mr. Moseley managed the provisioning teams responsible for installation and support of more than 1,500 new servers per month while maintaining the existing server base of 20,000 servers. He brings five years of Internet experience as the Customer Engineer Manager at Verio, Inc. In that capacity, Mr. Moseley was responsible for leading a team that coordinated the installation of dedicated services including hosting, security, access, and managed services. Mr. Moseley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from The University of Texas at Austin.
Matt Chilek - Vice President, Product Development
Mr. Chilek is challenged with the design, creation, and implementation of the SoftLayer Infrastructure Management System. Mr. Chilek joined SoftLayer from The Planet where he was Director of Product Development from January 2003 through May 2005. Prior to The Planet, Mr. Chilek served as Senior Programmer at Catalog.com, where he managed all internal development projects and dedicated customer project managers. Mr. Chilek is proficient in C++, C, PHP, Perl, Cold Fusion, ASP.net, VB.net, ASP, SQL, PL/SQL, UBScript, Expect, HTML and XML with emphasis on software design and execution. Mr. Chilek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University.
Steven Canale - Vice President, Sales
Mr. Canale's primary responsibilities include product selection and management of the sales team. Mr. Canale joined SoftLayer from The Planet where he managed The Planet's Enterprise and Total Control sales divisions. He holds a Bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and enjoys an extensive background in the financial services industry, working at firms such as Wachovia Securities and Prudential Securities. A top performer in sales and productivity, he developed strategic customer relationship building and managerial skills. Coupling his strong sales background, lead generation, market focus and CRM experience, Mr. Canale led The Planet's sales divisions to 18 consecutive monthly sales records.
Gary Kinman - Vice President, Accounting and Finance
Mr. Kinman continuously evaluates SoftLayer’s business model to find opportunities to improve operational and capital efficiencies with the goal of maximizing margins. Prior to joining SoftLayer in May 2007, Mr. Kinman was Vice President of Finance at The Planet where he was eventually called upon to serve as Chief Financial Officer through July 2006. He also gained significant experience in maximizing capital efficiency in both the Portfolio Management and Accounting departments of INVESCO Real Estate, who manages over $20 billion of client assets. Earlier, Mr. Kinman served as a consultant at Akili, a boutique consulting firm who advised numerous businesses how to improve performance by embedding the Internet into their business strategy and he holds an MBA from the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business.
Joshua Rushe - Vice President, Operations
Mr. Rushe’s primary responsibilities include the management of all worldwide datacenter operations; future site selection; developing operational processes, procedures, and efficiencies for all datacenters and network operation centers; and implementation of green strategies across all sites. Prior to joining SoftLayer, Mr. Rushe held several titles over a five-year tenure at The Planet, including Datacenter Manager, Technical Support Manager, NOC Manager, and Network Engineer. Mr. Rushe joined The Planet from Catalog.com where he was a technical support engineer. Mr. Rushe has extensive experience in datacenter management, networking equipment, server hardware, all operating systems, third-party control panel software, and call center management.
