Farmers Branch welcomes SoftLayer®
FARMERS BRANCH—February 23, 2010 — In a move that further solidifies the city's position as a leader in technological business and industry, Farmers Branch Mayor Tim O'Hare has announced that SoftLayer Technologies, is bringing its headquarters and world class, on-demand virtual data center services to Farmers Branch.the company's global headquarters and operations center.
The fast-growing tech firm is relocating from Plano to 60,000 square feet at 4849 Alpha Road in Farmers Branch where they plan to invest $80 million for their headquarters and data center.
"SoftLayer is a classic example of a 21st century success story," said Mayor O'Hare. "They seized on the need for a fully integrated computing environment and, in turn, have sold more than 25,000 servers in four years. This is a company we are thrilled to have in Farmers Branch."
SoftLayer counts nearly 6,000 customers in more than 110 countries around the globe. They will be bringing 80 jobs to Farmers Branch but plan to double that number in the near future. The Alpha road site includes three, two-story buildings which will include SoftLayer's global network operations center. SoftLayer CEO Lance Crosby said proximity was a prime consideration in selecting Farmers Branch.
"Farmers Branch is situated in the very center of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, minutes away from airports," he explained. "Our new site is very near LBJ Freeway and the Dallas North Tollway which is very convenient. We're happy to be coming to a city that values its economic development partners and where there is, literally, room to grow."
Farmers Branch Economic Development Director John Land said SoftLayer fits in with the corporate community. "From the Fortune 500s to the emerging corporations, we've got major installations in Farmers Branch ranging from regional offices to global headquarters," he explained.
