SoftLayer Takes Server Management Mobile

December 11, 2006, Dallas, TX - On-demand hosting provider, SoftLayer Technologies, has announced the launch of a unique customer portal accessible through mobile devices. The service allows administrators to receive alert notifications and respond immediately with direct control from their Blackberry™, Treo™ and other smartphone handsets. "SoftLayer continues to respond to our customers needs by designing and building products that are functional and add to the overall quality of service," said Dorian George, Director of Product Development. "Our customers can now respond to alerts, communicate with the NOC desk, access our IT professionals 24/7/365 and manage their IT environments from their pocket."

Currently, SoftLayer customers receive all notifications and alerts through email. Addressing any concerns, as they relate to server management, must be conducted from the customer's computer. With this new customer portal service, users can log in from their smartphones or cell phones and perform the same tasks and functions that they could from a laptop. "From submitting a ticket about a hardware upgrade to performing a remote reboot, our customers can enjoy a new level of management control and freedom."

According to Mr. George, the features of this new customer portal are robust, but he points out that as cell phone services continue to increase speed to the handheld device, more features will become available. Features of the new portal include the ability to: Add and respond to tickets, request server maintenance, remotely reboot servers, monitor recovery status, view bandwidth summary alerts and real-time bandwidth graphs. Customers can also access contact information, emergency support information and account representatives.

"We realize that business is becoming more mobile," concluded Mr. George. "With many of our customers conducting all aspects of their business through their mobile devices, this new portal is yet another example of SoftLayer developing the tools necessary to give the end user complete control of their IT environment."
