SoftLayer Adds Windows Server 2008 to its Comprehensive OS Offering

Dallas—February 27, 2008—SoftLayer has announced the immediate availability of all four of the new Windows Server 2008 Editions as options in its full line of dedicated server operating systems (OS). As with all SoftLayer OS offerings, ordering and installing the new OS is available to new and existing customers and fully automated through the company’s online tool and customer portal.

With this new release, Microsoft has significantly enhanced its industry-leading Windows Server platform. The Web Edition has significant enhancements, now comparable to the Standard Edition of Windows 2003. Other major benefits to the updated OS include:

• Web – delivers rich, Web-based experiences efficiently and effectively with improved administration and diagnostics, development, and application tools.
• Virtualization –built-in server virtualization technology enables administrators to reduce costs, increase hardware utilization, optimize infrastructure, and improve server availability.
• Security – hardened operating system and security innovations—including Network Access Protection, Federated Rights Management, and Read-Only Domain Controller—provide unprecedented levels of network, data, and business protection.
• Solid Foundation for Business Workloads – new technologies and features such as Server Core, PowerShell, Windows Deployment Services, and enhanced networking and clustering technologies make it the versatile and reliable Windows platform to date.

As part of the Windows Server 2008 launch, SoftLayer and Microsoft are offering the first 300 customers a free copy of Microsoft Expressions Web and one year of free training through TotalTraining.com, a savings of $550. Expressions is Microsoft’s new professional web design tool for creating modern, standards-based, superior quality sites.
