Lance Crosby, Esq.

Chief Executive Officer

Lance Crosby is the founder and visionary behind SoftLayer, an IBM Company. He is responsible for managing the overall success and growth of the company. Prior to SoftLayer, Mr. Crosby spent five years with The Planet as chief operations officer where he managed all operations including sales, provisioning, product selection, managed services, application development, engineering, information security, business development, and legal departments. Serving in prior executive management roles at Catalog.com and Dallas Internet, he brings extensive experience in leadership and management skills coupled with extensive technical skills in software and hardware environments. Mr. Crosby holds bachelors’ degrees in finance and management, a Master of Science in finance and Master of Business Administration from Tarleton State University, a part of the Texas A&M University System. Mr. Crosby’s legal education includes a Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan School of Law. He is a licensed attorney in the state of Texas and is an active member of the State Bar of Texas.

Sarah Button

Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Button leads accounting, revenue services, payables, human resources, compliance, and import/export. Before joining SoftLayer, Ms. Button was director of tax at GenBand, a global networking solutions provider, and served as vice president of tax at Stream Global Services. Prior to this, Ms. Button held similar tax positions in the airline service and manufacturing industries, and she has been the corporate controller for a banking software company listed on NASDAQ. She has extensive experience in U.S. and international accounting and tax, acquisitions, divestitures, and international expansion. Ms. Button started her career with Price Waterhouse in the UK and is a member of the Institute of Charted Accountants of England and Wales. She holds a Bachelor of Science (honors) from the University of Wales in geography and archaeology.

Sonny Fulkerson

Chief Information Officer

Mr. Fulkerson leads the teams responsible for the engineering and operation of SoftLayer’s data centers, core technologies, and global network supporting commercial products and corporate operations. Prior to joining SoftLayer, Mr. Fulkerson held a number of key leadership positions within IBM. He most recently served as CTO of IBM Software Group Global Operations and Support, where he was responsible for increasing the delivery efficiency of IBM's Worldwide SaaS portfolio including the transformation to continuous delivery approach and adoption of cloud technologies. He was appointed to the position of IBM Distinguished Engineer in 2008. Mr. Fulkerson holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in engineering and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) College of Engineering and its Alfred P. Sloan School of Management.

Nathan Huey

Chief Marketing Officer

Mr. Huey oversees all marketing responsibilities, including corporate branding, competitive positioning, awareness and demand generation, sales enablement, analyst and public relations, market intelligence and segmentation, and marketing operations. Prior to joining SoftLayer, Mr. Huey directed message and brand strategy for SoftLayer at the advertising agency Belmont Icehouse, directed creative teams at Kolar Advertising, and developed marketing and advertising campaigns at firms including McCann Erickson-Southwest, Temerlin McClain, and Krause Advertising for clients including Dell, 3M, and Texas Instruments. He has a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Arizona State University and a Master of Arts in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin.

Marc Jones

Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Jones leads SoftLayer’s technology design and architecture teams, which focus on the development of new products and services and research and development in SoftLayer Labs. Prior to joining SoftLayer, Mr. Jones served as director of software product development for Rackspace’s cloud division. He was a key member of the senior leadership team responsible for developing and managing the company’s cloud computing product strategy and roadmap, architecture and engineering, and software product development. Mr. Jones has also served as senior director for system architecture with Broadwing Communications. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration in business computer information systems from the University of North Texas, and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.

George Karidis

Chief Strategy Officer

Mr. Karidis oversees strategic growth areas of SoftLayer, including innovation, product management, and corporate development. Prior to joining SoftLayer, Mr. Karidis spent seven years with Devonshire Investors where he drove the strategic planning efforts of portfolio companies focused on the telecom, hosting, and software markets. He took active roles in each company from inception through domestic growth and international expansions. Previously, Mr. Karidis led business development for a startup serving the SME market, and spent more than six years with the Yankee Group as an industry analyst covering the telecom and IT sectors. He holds an Honors Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University with majors in finance, accounting, and economics, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.

Francisco Romero

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Romero leads SoftLayer’s data center operations around the world, inventory, customer care, budget, forecasting, and more. He lends the company his strong financial perspective and insight to capacity planning and logistics management. He joined SoftLayer in November 2010 after building out the business analytics function at The Planet to support the entire organization. Prior to that, he worked for more than three years in various strategy and business improvement functions at EDS/HP, developing product portfolio strategies and driving margin improvement programs across the outsourcing business unit. Before joining EDS, Mr. Romero worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Co., where he was involved multiple projects in operations strategy, margin improvement, business portfolio optimization, and financial analysis. He holds Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the UNAM and a master’s degree in materials science and engineering.

Tom Blair

Senior Vice President, Global Sales

Mr. Blair directs the company’s enterprise sales activities, including revenue generation, customer relationship management and retention, business development and sales engineering, as well as channel and alliance partnerships. He joined SoftLayer in November 2010. Prior to joining Softlayer, Mr. Blair served as vice president of global sales and channels at The Planet, as senior vice president for channel sales and strategic alliances at Terremark Worldwide, Inc., and as vice president for worldwide sales and managed services for Data Return Corporation. He was also in sales leadership at Octel Communications and in sales and marketing with Xerox Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration and marketing from the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business.

Steven Canale

Vice President, Sales

Mr. Canale leads all born-on-the-Web business sales for SoftLayer. His primary responsibilities include scaling and adapting the sales team to meet changing customer needs, product selection, and management of the sales team. Mr. Canale joined SoftLayer from The Planet where he managed The Planet's Enterprise and Total Control sales divisions. He holds a bachelor's degree from East Texas State University and enjoys an extensive background in the financial services industry, working at firms such as Wachovia Securities and Prudential Securities. A top performer in sales and productivity, he developed strategic customer relationship building and managerial skills. Coupling his strong sales background, lead generation, market focus, and CRM experience, Mr. Canale led The Planet's sales divisions to 18 consecutive monthly sales records.
