SoftLayer® Peering Policy

The following describe the peering policy of SoftLayer AS36351 network.

General Information

  • All peers must supply a contact that is available on a 24x7 basis, such as a Network Operations Center (NOC) or equivalent.
  • Peers must not utilize any form of gateway of last resort or default route that is directed at SoftLayer.
  • Use of the Internet Routing Registry (IRR) is required for prefix filtering. (RADB is preferred)
  • Peers should provide access to a looking glass or traceroute server to facilitate troubleshooting.
  • All announcements are to be consistent across all interconnect locations.
  • SoftLayer reserves the right to suspend peering for an indefinite period of time should any form of network abuse be verified to take place via the peering interconnect such as denial of service attacks (DOS), unsolicited bulk email (SPAM), or setting default-route to SoftLayer.
  • MD5 password: preferred but not required.
  • SoftLayer will not accept any announcement smaller than /24.
  • SoftLayer's final decision on peering is based upon a mutually agreeable decision to peer based upon operational needs. If SoftLayer's operational needs cause a peering arrangement to conflict with the best interest of SoftLayer, SoftLayer reserves the right to terminate the peering agreement with reasonable advance notice.
  • SoftLayer sends and honors MED attributes. We suggest networks that have a global presence with peering relationships to SoftLayer use and honor MEDs when possible for best performance.
