SoftLayer® Renews SAS 70 Type II Certification

Dallas—January 6, 2011—

For the third year in a row SoftLayer Technologies^®, the innovation leader in on-demand data center services and Web hosting, has received SAS 70 Type IIcertification of all its data center facilities. The certification was awarded following an independent audit performed and extensive testing by an outside agency, and involved SoftLayer data center facilities in Dallas, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., as well asfacilities in Dallasand Houstonrecently acquired through SoftLayer’s merger with The Planet^®.

“Our customers put mission-critical applications on our infrastructure, so they demand and deserve the highest level of assurance in the security of our facilities and operations,” said Steve Kinman, Communications Director for SoftLayer, and coordinator of the company’s SAS 70 audit. “Submitting to an annual SAS 70 Type II review is the gold standard. It validates that our security measures and policies are effectively designed, and that we consistently follow those procedures to the letter.”

SAS 70-certified data centers must maintain prescribed levels of data security and redundancy, as well as personnel controls. Specific procedures for accessing servers or data must be followed by data center staff in order; all systems access and activity must be logged, and all physical access must be highly controlled. The SAS 70 Type II audit includes full assessment of:

• Executive management oversight
• Operations and customer service
• Development and information technology organization
• Human resources policies and procedures
• Risk assessment monitoring
