SoftLayer® Empowers Customers with Next Generation Intel® Xeon Processors
First to Offer Latest Technology to Customers Building Advanced Online Applications on a Global Cloud Infrastructure
Dallas—March 6, 2012—SoftLayer Technologies®, the innovation leader in on-demand cloud and dedicated hosting, today announced it will be the first hosting provider to offer servers featuring Xeon E5 2600 series processor. The E5-2600 series is based on Intel’s Sandy Bridge architecture and delivers more cores, memory support and I/O bandwidth making it ideal for powering cloud applications, virtualized computing and content streaming.

- New Intel Integrated I/O with PCI Express 3.0 can up to triple the movement of data in to and out of the processor so information can be made available faster than ever to support data-hungry applications;
- Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) — a new, 256-bit instruction set extension to Intel SSE that accelerates floating point intensive applications and reduces compute times; and
- Hyper-threading technology that enables up to 16 computational threads.
