SoftLayerTM Completes Additional Network Upgrades
Includes New 10G Peering Connection with Telefónica
Dallas—April 21, 2009—SoftLayer Technologies, the on-demand IT services provider, announced it has upgraded its network with more robust bandwidth connections and new features. The upgrades include a new 10G peering connection with Telefónica in Dallas that improves performance for South American customers connecting to all three SoftLayer data centers.
SoftLayer also added enhanced network monitoring tools with bandwidth monitoring and free inbound bandwidth. New bandwidth graphs in the company’s Customer Portal and forums provide more detailed feedback. Free inbound bandwidth gives customers substantial cost savings—20% of SoftLayer’s typical customers’ total bandwidth traffic is inbound.“Our public and private networks are key assets to customers,” said Ric Moseley, Vice President of Engineering for SoftLayer. “By continuously augmenting our network’s capabilities, we ensure customers have the fast, reliable connectivity they expect from us.”The company’s Seattle, WA, and Washington, DC, data centers have recently received additional 10G peering and transit backbone connections. Recent upgrades also included the installation of Internap’s Flow Control Platform (FCP), a route optimization system, and the addition of a 10G Comcast connection for private peering at each data center that currently carries more than 5Gbps of network traffic.SoftLayer currently features a total of 230Gbps of capacity across its network, with bandwidth carriers that include:- NTT America
